The Bangla Stories site tells the stories of people who left Bengal after Independence in 1947. These are stories of people who left behind home and family, people who crossed new borders and travelled overseas, people who made new lives.
The site sprang out of a research project from the LSE and University of Cambridge. Eight stories were chosen and presented with hand drawn illustrations and animations to make them accessible and useful to students and teachers alike.
As well as the stories, the site includes an interactive timeline of events letting users navigate easily through the history of the stories. The timeline was integrated into the content management system (CMS) enabling the administrator to easy add, remove and cross-link timeline entries.
The site was launched at the House of Lords by Baroness Uddin and (more importantly) children from Mulberry School in London.
